Malcolm Ross started playing drums at six and has played professionally
for many years now, encouraged by the many drummers passing through the house
,to play with his father lindsay.
Malcolm was sent to study with the late Alan Johnston ,who moved to the dundee area to retire after many years as
a pro drummer. Alan had played with acts as diverse as trombonist george chisolm
and the moscow state circus.
After 5 years, Malcolm passed his bbc audition, at age 11, soon the gigs started to mount up and his father tried to make
sure he was playing many different styles, rock ,jazz, latin as well as the
traditional scottish the family were well known for.Two big highlights for
malcolm were meeting the worlds greatest drummer/buddy rich and spending
a day with cliff della-porta the owner of "premier drums" at the new leicester
factory.A year or two down the line malcolm counts he has played over 40
full musicals,75 albums,numerous radio broadcasts,tv shows,caberet ackings,pantos,varietyshows,and
as many bread and butter gigs as he can."its funny where some of the musicl
ive played on ends up" says malcolm , bbc jingles, channel 4s eurotrash, and
even asda supermarket muzak. Still keen to improve as a drummer, its latin
music malcolm aspires to these days, especially applying the rhythms of cuban
rhythm sections ,to the drum kit.this can be heard on waynes first recording.
